January 22, 2025

The final CRUSEV publication has appeared in print! Odmienczosc: Obywatelstwo seksualne i archiwum (Queerness: Sexual Citizenship and the Archive) was published by Warsaw University Press in late 2024. The book was edited by Tomasz Basiuk, Jedrzej Burszta, and Agnieszka Koscianska, and includes contributions from Karolina Morawska, Aleksandra Gajowy, Karol Radziszewski, Wojciech Szymanski, and Sarah Schulman.

This is from the book blurb: “The story of homosexual identity in Poland and other Eastern Bloc countries usually begins in the late 1980s, when the first periodicals aimed at non-heteronormative people and (informal) organizations fighting for their rights emerged. The authors of this book consider what came before, examining everyday life, expert discourses, literature, art, and social networks. They juxtapose what was happening in Poland with examples from both sides of the Iron Curtain. In their search for manifestations of LGBTQ+ emancipation, as well as the mechanisms hindering it, they are aided by the concept of sexual citizenship, based on a broad definition of citizenship as cultural and identity affiliation, and the fullness of rights.”
